Race Engine Nearing Completion 2006 |
In 2002 Geoff Nunn & Associates embarked on a special project to develop and prepare an historic racing car
to assist with our business development. In our view sponsorship of functions at football matches
and golf days did not fit our corporate image or the market we were trying to reach.
We knew that historic motor sport was becoming increasingly popular with
directors and executives. Not only did it provide an opportunity to observe some of the great marques in action, the sport was action packed, exiting to watch
and offered the opportunity for direct participation.
After considering various options we chose to sponsor the development of a 1966 Datsun
Roadster Sports SP 311. A suitable vehicle was located in Geelong and a development plan formulated. The vehicle was prepared in strict accordance with CAMS Group Sb
regulations.
The Pit Crew comprises now three automotive diehards: Brian Tuckett, Group Manager,
HR Services Sensis Pty Ltd (Pit Crew Manager), Pat Carey, Managing Director, CPE
Systems (Chief Electronics Engineer), and Gerry Smith, Human Resources
Manager, Brimbank City Council (Head of Logistics).
The Beast, as the car has become optimistically known, performed well at
Phillip Island in February 2006 after a complete engine re-build.
It also went well at the Victorian Historic Racing Register Rob, Roy
Hillclimb in June of this year. Further engine developments are
underway. We currently have a super H20 in place for club and
non-CAMS events. The R16 race engine is undergoing further
development courtesy of Roadster expert, Lou Mondello and should be ready in the near
future.
